Lalaithion sat on the bank of the lake, holding onto a fishing rod and waiting for a bite. A small hole was next to him where he had dug for a worm, and his hands were all dirty. Sighing heavily, wiped his hands off in the grass one by one, still keeping a tight grip on the fishing rod so it wouldn't fall into the water. He used his free hand to open up a book that he had brought with him and sat it on his lap, reading it while he waited for a fish to come along. He didn't even know if there were fish living in this lake, but it was worth a try.

Adelie strolled along the edge of lake, peering into the murky water. She wondered if there would be a chance to canoe on it at some point... Her train of thought was suddenly interrupted by a plop that sent ripples through the glass smooth surface of the lake. Looking up abruptly, her eyes met a lone figure sitting on the bank. He had cast his fishing line into the lake and was now sitting down to read a book he had brought along. She wondered what he was going to do with the fish if he caught one... would he eat it? The school made plenty of food though... Puzzled, she walked over and asked: "What do you plan to do with the fish if you catch it?"

Lalaithion looked up at the girl, slightly confused at her question, but only because he didn't know what he was going to do with the fish when he caught it. If he caught it. He hadn't planned on eating the fish, actually he hadn't planned on doing anything with the fish. "Err, let it go I guess," he piped up after a minute of thought, shrugging his shoulders.

Adelie smiled "I just wondered why you would be catching your own food if it's already provided here in abundance. What is that that you are reading? Do you like to read often? What is your favorite genre? Do you think I talk too much?" Adelie blushed a little, she had forgotten that she could run on like that. "Uh... sorry about that, sometimes my tongue just runs off with me." He seemed like a nice person, so she didn't think he would mind if she rambled on like that, but it is still courteous to apologise for your own shortcomings afterall...

Lalaithion blinked a few times as the girl asked him a million questions, waiting for her to finish before he answered, if she even wanted answers. "It's alright," he said smiling and nodding his head when she apologized. He was about to answer her questions when he realized he only remembered one of them. "Well um, I'm reading.. this." He couldn't remember what the book was called, so it picked it up and showed it to her. It was a comic book.

"Ohh! A comic book! I haven't read a comic book in a while... is it any good? Lately I have been into 'How to cook fancy desserts' books, I like to cook." She grinned at the random boy that she had just assaulted with her loquaciousness. When it occurred to her that she didn't even know his name. "Uh, by the way, what's your name?"

"It's alright so far, I guess. I didn't get very far before you came along," he said shrugging and flipping the book shut, sitting it down next to him. "How to cook fancy desserts, huh? So have you learned how to.. cook any fancy desserts yet?" he asked, grinning. He was terrible at cooking, but desserts were, of course, his favorite. "Oh, I'm Lalaithion Roswell." He nodded his head and waited for her to introduce herself.

"Oh yes!" Adelie replied quickly, completely forgetting to tell him her name "I've learned how to make crepes and cream puffs and pretty much every type of tart, creme brulee and all manners of tasty desserts. I just love desserts, so ornate! They capture the essences of the fleeting seasons with an art incomparable to any other media (in my opinion)." She gave a wistful sigh and looked over to the castle, wondering if she herself could use the kitchen. "Hey, do you think I, as a student, could use the kitchen?" She asked, suddenly not as talkative. She looked back over to Lalaithion who looked kind of flustered. She blushed again. She really had to work on her loose tongue.

"Oh, that's.. nice.." Lalaithion said after the still nameless girl finished another long rant. He didn't think he'd ever met anyone who talked this much, not even his own mother. And she talked a whole lot. "I don't see why you couldn't use the kitchens." He shook his shoulders and looked towards the school. As he was busy wondering where in the school the kitchen was, he felt a tugging on his forgotten fishing line. He was so surprised that he dropped the rod, watching it slip into the water before realizing what had happened. "Hey, no!" he shouted, plunging a hand into the water and grabbing the rod before it sunk down too far.

Adelie was pondering on delicious desserts, when she suddenly remembered that she had forgotten to tell him her name. "Oh! I forgot to tell you, my name is Adelie Taman Ninon! ... it means noble garden... my parents liked plants..." She watched him drop the rod and at that second she jumped headlong into the lake , floundering about like a fish out of water... not realizing that Lalaithion had already recovered the rod, so she continued to writhe around in the mud, trying to find the rod. When she figured that by now the rod would be gone, she turned around and drooped her head saying "I'm sorry, I wasn't fast enough to catch it..."

Lalaithion was too busy trying to pull the rod out of the water to say anything about her name, though normally he would have laughed at the comment about her parents liking plants. When he pulled the rod back out he was going to try to reel the line in, but he was distracted when Adelie jumped into the lake, possibly trying to catch the already caught rod. He almost let go of the rod again as he lunged towards the edge of the lake, looking around in the water for her. Oh, he hoped she could swim. Then again, she wouldn't have jumped in if she couldn't, right? He gave a sigh of relief as he saw her resurface, looking despondent. "Oh no, it's alright. I have it here, see?" he said, holding up the rod and smiling reassuringly. He didn't realize that there was still something tugging on the end of the line.

Adelie flushed with embarrassment at her haste, then shouted (a bit too loudly) "THE FISH IS STILL ON THE LINE! REEL IT IN!" She could hardly hold back her excitement. She had never seen someone actually catch a fish before. Certainly she had read about it in books, but to see it was something completely amazing and new to her. She suddenly became very calm and wondered if she had made a friend today, it would certainly be nice, she didn't really know anyone at school yet.

Lalaithion, busy making sure that Adelie was okay, jumped as she shouted something about a fish. He tilted his head and then realized that the reel was slipping out of his hand again. Oh, there was a fish on it! He screamed girlishly, which would have embarrassed him immensely had he not been paying attention to more important things. When he calmed himself, he began to reel in the fish with some difficulty. Truth is, he'd never been fishing before. His father had given him this rod when he came here, and he felt like he should use it at least once. He really didn't have any clue what he was doing.

Adelie tried to hold back her laughter as she watched Lalaithion scream like a girl and then fumble around with the fishing rod. It looked like it was the first time he had ever caught a fish. "GET THAT FISH!" She chanted encouragingly. She even waded thigh high into the lake to see if she could help catch the fish with the skirt of her dress. She really didn't care since she was already completely soaked. She was never really all that proper anyway... personally she blamed it on the plants. It's impossible to grow plants and care about how much dirt and water you got on you. Not that she cared about that either, growing up with plant loving parents, it's pretty much impossible anyway.

Lalaithion's hands shook as he tried to reel the fish in, watching as Adelie tried to... catch it with her skirt? Oh, this was insane. Why on earth had he thought he could do this? He continued to try and reel the fish in, backing up a little and finally managing to get it up out of the water. But now the thing was swinging around! And.. oh, it had hit Adelie. This girl was going to hate him by the end of the day. "I'm sorry!" he shouted, reeling it in the rest of the way and watching as the fish flopped around on the ground next to him. Fishing was more work than it was worth, really.
